Inside SatEnlight’s technology: the founders speak with Galaxia
On 11 February 2026, SatEnlight shared a new episode of Galaxia’s Interviste Spaziali, featuring founders Matteo Vismara and Matteo Mirigliano and focusing on the technology behind the company’s approach to optical satellite communications.
The conversation followed a new phase in SatEnlight’s growth and provided an opportunity to go beyond individual milestones and explain the scientific principles at the core of the company.
SatEnlight is developing an optical communication system based on the Orbital Angular Momentum of light, using structured optical beams to introduce multiple communication channels within the same link.
The objective is to increase data rates while maintaining an architecture that can be integrated with existing optical communication technologies.
During the interview, Vismara and Mirigliano also discussed the transition from scientific research to entrepreneurship: a central part of SatEnlight’s story since its foundation.
Turning fundamental photonics research into a technology capable of operating in real communication systems requires more than demonstrating a physical principle. It means progressively addressing engineering, integration, atmospheric propagation and market requirements.
By February 2026, SatEnlight was moving through that transition, combining research with increasingly ambitious experimental activities and building relationships across the European space ecosystem.
The Galaxia interview offered a closer look at the technology, but also at the reasoning behind SatEnlight’s ambition: using light in a different way to expand the possibilities of future satellite communications.
